Churachandpur , Manipur

Every institution has a story, but few have a story as profound, resilient, and inspiring as Rostad Memorial High School. Born in a time of global change, shaped by conflict, strengthened through adversity, and reborn through the devotion of its leaders and community, the school stands today as a symbol of endurance and purpose.

About Business

From its humble beginnings in 1928 to its present home under the care of the Mizoram Presbyterian Church Synod: Manipur Area, Rostad Memorial High School has lived through nearly a century of transformation yet its foundational mission has remained constant:
to educate, uplift, and empower young minds with knowledge, character, and faith.

Roots in Lakhipur: The Beginning (1928)

The school's origins trace back to Lakhipur, Assam, where it was founded by Rev. Rostad under the name Dinwidie Memorial Bible School. It was not merely an educational institution it was a mission, a calling. Students were nurtured not only academically but also spiritually, guided by Christian values of service, humility, and compassion.

Rev. Rostad’s vision was clear:
educate the youth to strengthen their communities, deepen their faith, and shape a brighter future for generations to come.

Little did he know that the foundation he laid in 1928 would become one of the most enduring educational institutions in the region.

The Move to Old Churachand A New Chapter (1930)

In 1930, the school took a crucial turn. When the North East India General Mission (NEIGM) shifted its headquarters from Lakhipur to Old Churachand (Mission Compound), Manipur, the school relocated with it. With the move came new opportunities, new challenges, and an expanded vision.

At this stage, the school imparted education up to Class VII. Classrooms buzzed with curiosity, teachers found joy in shaping young minds, and the community began to see the school as a place of hope.

But history had other plans.

War, Closure, and Rebirth (World War II 1947)

The outbreak of World War II cast a long shadow over the region. Like many institutions, the school was forced to shut its doors temporarily. The silence that descended on its campus reflected the uncertainty of the times.

Yet even war could not extinguish the spirit of the school.

In 1947, as peace returned, the school reopened under the leadership of Mr. H. Chinlang, a dedicated and visionary headmaster. Tragically, his tenure was cut short when he passed away in 1948. His death was a heavy blow, but the mission endured, and the school soon found a new guiding light.

Rev. Paul Rostad A Leader, A Legacy

Following Mr. Chinlang’s passing, Rev. Paul Rostad took over the headmastership. His leadership was marked by sincerity, discipline, and unwavering dedication. He revived the school’s academic strength, strengthened its spiritual roots, and brought stability during a difficult period.

When Rev. Rostad eventually returned to the USA, his legacy lived on. To honor his remarkable contributions, the NEIGM later renamed the Evangelical Congregational Church of India (ECCI) renamed the school as:

A name that would forever reflect gratitude, respect, and remembrance.
