Education is not a privilege it is a fundamental human right. Yet, in many parts of India, access to quality education remains a distant dream for children from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Shanti India was founded with a singular vision: to change this reality, one child at a time. Established in 2005 in Bodhgaya, Bihar, one of the country’s poorest states, Shanti India is more than an educational initiative; it is a movement dedicated to hope, equality, and social transformation.
About Shanti India School, Gaya, Bihar
Bodhgaya, known worldwide as the place where Gautama Buddha attained enlightenment, is steeped in spiritual history. Yet, beneath its cultural and religious significance, many local children face the harsh realities of poverty, inadequate schooling, and limited opportunities. Shanti India was created to bridge this gap, offering these children a chance not only to learn but also to dream, aspire, and thrive.
Our Mission: Education for Every Child
At Shanti India, we believe that every child has the right to quality education, regardless of their social, economic, or cultural background. Many children in Bodhgaya come from families that struggle to meet basic needs. For these children, attending school can seem like an impossible luxury.
Shanti India provides full time, free education to children from underprivileged families. Today, the organization supports 886 children, ensuring they receive not just academic instruction but also emotional guidance, moral education, and the tools to navigate life successfully. By removing financial, social, and logistical barriers, Shanti India creates a space where children can thrive academically and personally.
Our approach goes beyond teaching literacy and numeracy. We are committed to holistic development, preparing students to face the challenges of life with resilience, intelligence, and ethical awareness.
The Founding Vision: Compassion in Action
Shanti India was established on the belief that education is the most powerful tool for social change. The founders recognized that children from marginalized communities often lack access to basic schooling, let alone quality education that could empower them to escape the cycle of poverty.
From the beginning, the organization has been guided by principles of:
Solidarity standing together with the underprivileged
Compassion understanding and responding to the struggles of others
Tolerance respecting diversity in backgrounds and ideas
Kindness nurturing empathy and care in young minds
These values are not only taught but also practiced daily within the organization. Children at Shanti India are encouraged to develop character, integrity, and a sense of responsibility alongside academic skills.
