Golaghat Jatiya Vidyalaya Golaghat, Assam

Golaghat , Assam

Education is often described as the foundation of a nation, a bridge between tradition and progress, and a beacon of hope for future generations. Few understand this truth better than those visionaries who dream not just for themselves but for an entire community. In the city of Golaghat, this dream became a reality with the establishment of Golaghat Jatiya Vidyalaya, a school that has, over the past two decades, transformed the educational landscape of the region.

About Business

The story of Golaghat Jatiya Vidyalaya is not just the tale of a school; it is a chronicle of vision, perseverance, and unwavering dedication. It is a testament to the power of collective dreams, inspired by the words of Late Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, the former President of India, who famously said, “Dream, dream, and dream… for dreams transform into reality when coupled with hard work and determination.” Unlike the innocent dreams of children who wish for a toy, a football, or a doll, five citizens of Golaghat envisioned a dream that would shape the future of countless children in their town and the surrounding areas.

The Visionaries Behind the Dream

The inception of Golaghat Jatiya Vidyalaya dates back to 1998, when a group of five socially conscious and forward thinking citizens of Golaghat gathered at the Golaghat Amateur Hall, a prominent cultural hub in the city. Their evening discussions, initially casual, soon gravitated towards serious deliberations about the state of education in Golaghat. They were particularly concerned with the rapid proliferation of English medium schools, which, while catering to modern needs, often overlooked the cultural and linguistic identity of Assamese students.

The conversation gradually crystallized into a vision for a school that combined traditional Assamese medium education with strong emphasis on English and modern learning methods. This vision would eventually become Golaghat Jatiya Vidyalaya a school “with a difference.”

The founding members, driven by sincerity and determination, were:

Lt. Mr. Ajit Barua, a prominent businessman with a progressive outlook.

Lt. Mr. Kandarpa Tamuly, an esteemed educationist and retired History professor of D.R. College, Golaghat.

Lt. Mr. Jehirul Hussain, a celebrated short story writer and educationist.

Dr. Ajit Baruah, a dedicated medical practitioner.

Dr. Manas Roy, also a medical professional, committed to community welfare and child development.

Their mission was supported by a team of mentors and advisors including Late Mr. Prafulla Ch. Chaliha, an octogenarian English scholar, Lt. Mrs. Nilima Baruah, a renowned retired headmistress, and progressive community members like Lt. Mr. Risheswor Bora and Lt. Mr. Kosheswar Khanikar. Together, they envisioned a school that would stand as a beacon of holistic education, cultural values, and academic excellence.

The Birth of Golaghat Jatiya Vidyalaya

The dream was transformed into reality on 5th January 2000, when Golaghat Jatiya Vidyalaya was formally inaugurated. The first classes were held in a rented house at Amolapatty, Golaghat, generously provided by Mr. Romendra Prasad Baruah, a respected advocate of the Golaghat Bar. The school began modestly with 58 students, a small but enthusiastic batch eager to embrace a new way of learning.

The first teachers of the institution, who became the pillars of its early success, were:

Lt. Ms. Saranony Bordoloi, a committed educator.

Mr. Porosh Baruah, whose dedication to student development was unmatched.

Ms. Rima Mahanta, a passionate teacher driven by innovative teaching methods.

Mr. Pranab Jyoti Saikia, who brought energy and a fresh perspective to the classroom.

Supporting staff included Sri Nobin Saikia, serving as the Grade IV employee, while Lt. Nilima Baruah assumed the role of Headmistress, providing direction, discipline, and inspiration to the budding institution. Lt. Prafulla Ch. Chaliha, with his profound wisdom, became the guiding force the friend, philosopher, and mentor of the school.

Institutional Governance and Academic Guidance

To ensure effective management and governance, a Board of Management was constituted. Lt. Mr. Ajit Baruah took the charge as President, while Dr. Ajit Baruah served as Secretary. Other founding members included Lt. Mr. Kandarpa Tamuly and Lt. Jehirul Hussain, who extended their full academic guidance and mentorship to the institution.

This structure ensured that all decisions were made in the best interest of the students, with careful attention to academic standards, resource allocation, and community engagement. Over time, the school also formed an Academic Council, comprising educationists and guardians, tasked with providing guidance on curriculum planning, pedagogical strategies, and holistic student development.
