The Visionary Call: A Bishop’s Dream for Christian Presence
The foundation of this mission traces back to the heartfelt desire of Rt. Rev. Bernard Moras, the Bishop of Belgaum, who recognized the urgent need for a Christian presence in Haveri, the District Headquarters and a rapidly developing town located on the National Highway. As Haveri was emerging as an important administrative and commercial center, the Bishop envisioned a faith based institution that would serve the people through education, moral values, and social outreach.
Moved by pastoral concern and foresight, the Bishop invited the Sisters to establish a convent and begin their mission in Haveri. His enthusiasm was not merely for expansion but for meaningful presence one that would bring the message of love, service, and hope to the people of the region.
Prayer, Discernment, and a Courageous Decision
The invitation was received with deep seriousness and reflection by the Congregation. Establishing a new foundation is never a simple task; it requires prayer, discernment, and complete trust in divine guidance. After much prayer and thoughtful consideration, the Congregation felt strongly inspired to accept the challenge and establish a new foundation at Haveri.
Although the town lacked a Christian atmosphere at that time, the Congregation believed that faith thrives where service is needed most. The call was not just to settle, but to be carriers of the Good News, expressed through love, education, and selfless service.
Answering the Call: Leadership and Missionary Zeal
Responding to this divine prompting, Mother Angela Merci, the Superior General, entrusted the responsibility of this mission to Mother Margaret Mary, a woman of deep faith, leadership, and missionary zeal. With courage and determination, she accepted the task of laying the foundation for a new community in an unfamiliar environment.
This decision marked the beginning of a mission that would transform not only the lives of the Sisters involved but also the educational landscape of Haveri.
