Spanning over three decades, this mission stands today as a living testimony to what visionary leadership, dedicated service, and divine grace can accomplish when placed at the service of humanity.
About Business
Thirty two years ago, the Congregation of the Mother of Carmel (CMC), Vimala Province, received a profound invitation that would shape the future of countless lives in Maharashtra. His Excellency Dr. Mar Paul Chittilapilly, the Bishop of Kalyan, extended a heartfelt request to the Province: to provide spiritual guidance to the Syro Malabar Christian community scattered across the region and to bring quality education to the native population of Jalgaon and the wider Khandesh belt.
This invitation was not merely administrative it was a pastoral call, a challenge to step beyond familiar territories and respond to the needs of people living far from established educational and spiritual institutions. Recognizing the significance of this appeal, the Vimala Province responded with discernment, prayer, and courage.
A Step of Faith into the Unknown
On 3rd July 1989, the then Provincial Superior, Rev. Mother Januarius, accompanied by Provincial Councillor Sr. Bibiana, embarked on an exploratory journey to Maharashtra. Their mission was clear: to study the socio cultural, educational, and spiritual landscape of Jalgaon and assess the feasibility of establishing a permanent mission there.
Just three days later, on 6th July 1989, they set foot on the soil of Jalgaon for the first time. The land was unfamiliar, the language different, and the challenges many. Yet, beneath the surface lay immense potential a community eager for education, moral formation, and compassionate service.
What lay ahead was far from easy. Limited resources, cultural adjustments, and infrastructural challenges awaited the pioneers. However, faith became their compass, and service their guiding principle.
The Pioneers: Courage Beyond Comfort
After careful evaluation, the Province entrusted the mission to three courageous sisters Late Sr. Bibiana, Late Sr. Alexius, and Sr. Thaddeus. Leaving behind the familiarity of Kerala, they set out on their historic journey on 19th September 1989, carrying little more than faith, hope, and a deep sense of purpose.
Upon arrival in Jalgaon, the sisters began their work in a modest rented building. The simplicity of their surroundings stood in stark contrast to the magnitude of their vision. Yet, with trust in God’s providence and the support of the local community, they laid the foundation of what would soon grow into a flourishing center of education and service.
On 15th October 1989, the convent was officially inaugurated marking a significant milestone in the mission’s history. This humble beginning symbolized a powerful commitment: to serve without conditions and to educate with compassion.
Birth of an Educational Mission
As the sisters immersed themselves in the life of the people, one need stood out unmistakably education. Children in the region lacked access to structured, value based schooling. Recognizing this urgent requirement, the sisters took a bold step.
On 17th June 1991, the convent premises were transformed into classrooms, welcoming 26 young children. This modest initiative marked the birth of St. Teresa’s Convent School, a name that would soon become synonymous with excellence, discipline, and holistic education in Jalgaon.
What began as a small classroom soon blossomed into a vibrant learning environment. Parents, irrespective of caste, creed, or economic background, trusted the sisters with their children’s future. The school became a place where academic learning went hand in hand with moral formation, discipline, and human values.
Growth, Expansion, and New Milestones
As student enrollment steadily increased, the need for a larger and more permanent space became evident. With foresight and determination, the management decided to relocate the school from Adarsh Nagar to a new campus near the serene surroundings of Mehrun Lake.
On 9th November 1993, St. Teresa’s Convent School officially shifted to its new premises. This move marked the beginning of a new chapter one characterized by structured growth, enhanced facilities, and a broader educational vision.
Over the years, the school continued to evolve in response to changing educational needs. A significant milestone was achieved on 20th May 2006, with the introduction of the Junior College section. This expansion enabled students to continue their academic journey within the same nurturing environment up to Grade XII, reinforcing continuity and excellence in education.
Three Decades of Educational Excellence
Today, St. Teresa’s Convent School proudly celebrates over 30 years of dedicated service in the field of education. What started with just 26 students has now grown into a vibrant institution educating more than 3,000 students, from kindergarten to higher secondary levels.
The school is supported by a strong team of 140 teaching and non teaching staff, all committed to shaping young minds with professionalism, care, and integrity. Each member plays a vital role in sustaining the school’s mission to educate, empower, and inspire.
