A Historic Beginning Rooted in Women’s Empowerment
The journey of the college began with a noble purpose. Established in 1962, the institution was founded through the dedicated efforts of eminent women leaders of Kakinada, who came together to form the Women’s Education Society of Kakinada. Their shared vision was to create an educational space that would open doors of opportunity for women and enable them to pursue higher education with confidence and dignity.
In 1963, the management of the college was entrusted to the Annavaram Devasthanam Trust, which guided the institution for nearly five years. Recognizing the college’s growing importance and potential, the Government of Andhra Pradesh took over its administration in 1968, marking a significant milestone in its development as a public institution dedicated to women’s education.
Recognition, Growth, and Academic Transformation
The institution has witnessed steady growth and transformation over the decades. In 1972, it was formally recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under Sections 2(f) and 12(B), affirming its eligibility for central assistance and academic credibility.
Initially established as a composite college, it evolved into a full fledged degree college in 1997, after which it was officially named A.S.D. Government Degree College for Women, Kakinada. This transition marked a new phase of academic expansion and specialization.
The college’s commitment to quality has been consistently validated through accreditation
In recognition of its academic standards, governance, and innovation, the institution was granted Autonomous Status in the academic year 2015,2016, a distinction that allows it greater flexibility in curriculum design, evaluation, and academic initiatives.
