PM Shri Govt Senior Secondary School, Minicoy

Located in the heart of Kalpeni Island, Government Sardar Patel Senior Secondary School stands as a pillar of learning and community pride in Lakshadweep. Named after one of India’s most respected leaders, the school embodies unity, resilience, and progress—values deeply rooted in its island setting. As a government-run, co-educational institution, it offers education from secondary to senior secondary levels, nurturing students not just academically, but through a strong emphasis on discipline, cultural identity, and personal growth. Surrounded by swaying coconut palms and the calm rhythm of the sea, the school blends traditional classroom learning with real-world awareness, supported by dedicated teachers, a growing library, and access to digital tools. For generations of students in Kalpeni, it has been more than a school—it’s a place where ambitions begin, friendships are formed, and futures are shaped with care and purpose.

Tucked into the turquoise waters of the Lakshadweep archipelago, Lakshadweep Surfing School is more than just a surf school—it's a coastal sanctuary where ocean dreams meet gentle guidance and the spirit of adventure rides every wave. Framed by white-sand beaches, swaying palms, and coral-kissed lagoons, the school welcomes everyone from first-time paddlers to seasoned surfers, offering safe, supportive instruction in an environment rich with island charm. With simple huts, surfboards resting under palm shade, and the ever-present rhythm of the sea, each day flows with the tides—early morning sessions, sun-soaked breaks, and sunset gatherings filled with stories and laughter. Here, surfing is not just a sport, but a soulful journey of resilience, joy, and connection with nature, where every tumble into foam is a step closer to discovering the freedom and beauty of life lived by the ocean.

Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Minicoy is a co-educational residential school established in 1988, functioning under the autonomous Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, governed by the Department of School Education & Literacy. Situated on the stunning coral island of Minicoy—about 400 km from Cochin, Kerala—this school is part of the Hyderabad region and has been operating from its permanent campus since August 14, 2001. Classified under the ‘B’ category, JNV Minicoy has the capacity to accommodate up to 280 students. The Vidyalaya offers free, quality education exclusively for talented rural children from various islands of Lakshadweep, with classes spanning from VI to XII in the Science stream. Affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the school follows a curriculum designed to nurture academic excellence and holistic development. Nestled on a beautiful 3.5-acre campus adjacent to the Naval Detachment in Minicoy, the school environment is serene and dotted with coconut trees, offering students a peaceful place to learn and grow. The campus boasts a spacious academic block, separate dormitories for boys and girls with ample capacity, a well-planned dining hall-cum-kitchen, and staff quarters. The comfortable residential arrangements for both teaching and non-teaching staff, including the Principal, ensure close supervision and smooth functioning of the Vidyalaya’s day-to-day activities. JNV Minicoy remains committed to nurturing bright young minds, empowering rural talent through education, and shaping future leaders in the picturesque heart of Lakshadweep.

Nestled in the serene lap of the Arabian Sea, on the picturesque island of Kavaratti—the administrative capital of Lakshadweep—Kendriya Vidyalaya Kavaratti stands as a symbol of educational excellence and holistic development in one of India’s most remote and beautiful settings. Established on 1st April 2003, the school was founded under the aegis of the Union Territory of Lakshadweep Administration to cater primarily to the educational needs of children of Central Government employees with transferable jobs. Functioning under the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), an autonomous body under the Ministry of Education, the Vidyalaya is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and offers education from Class I to Class XII (Science stream). Over the years, KV Kavaratti has grown in strength and stature, not just in terms of numbers, but in the character and confidence of the students it nurtures. What makes this school truly unique is its location—surrounded by the calming rhythm of the sea, the fresh ocean breeze, and the natural seclusion that provides a peaceful, distraction-free environment for learning. The school doesn’t just embrace this uniqueness; it turns it into a strength, using nature’s presence to inspire resilience, curiosity, and mindfulness among its students. In February 2022, the school marked a significant milestone by shifting to a newly constructed, modern two-storied campus equipped with well-ventilated classrooms, science and computer laboratories, a well-stocked library, and spacious activity areas. This new infrastructure supports a wide spectrum of academic and co-curricular activities, reflecting the school’s commitment to holistic education. The curriculum here goes beyond textbooks, incorporating hands-on learning, values education, and life skills that prepare students for real-world challenges. At the heart of KV Kavaratti is a deeply rooted belief in inclusivity, unity in diversity, integrity, and nation-building. The school brings together children from various linguistic and cultural backgrounds, fostering mutual respect and collaboration. With a focus on all-round development, students actively participate in sports, cultural programs, inter-house and inter-school competitions, and community-based activities that help them grow as well-rounded individuals. The school's ethos encourages honesty, compassion, discipline, and a strong sense of social responsibility. Despite the geographical challenges posed by its island location—such as logistical constraints and limited access to certain resources—KV Kavaratti has consistently turned adversity into opportunity. The school community, including teachers, students, and parents, share a close-knit bond that nurtures collaboration, adaptability, and resilience. These values are not just taught—they are lived every day. Further strengthening its role as a modern centre of learning, KV Kavaratti has been selected as a PM-SHRI School under a flagship initiative by the Government of India to upgrade schools to higher standards of infrastructure, digital readiness, environmental consciousness, and inclusive pedagogy in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. In essence, Kendriya Vidyalaya Kavaratti is much more than a place of learning—it is a community, a safe haven, and a launchpad for young minds to discover their potential and shape their futures. It stands as a proud educational landmark in Lakshadweep, where values meet vision, and where the sea not only surrounds—but inspires.
