At the heart of the library is its remarkable collection of around 50,000 volumes. This extensive range reflects the multicultural and international spirit of Auroville itself. The books are available in ten different languages, including English, German, French, Tamil, Italian, Dutch, Russian, Spanish, Korean, and Hebrew. This multilingual collection ensures that people from various backgrounds can find material that resonates with them, whether they are reading for study, leisure, or deeper exploration of ideas.

The organization of the library follows the globally recognized Dewey Decimal Classification system, which allows visitors to easily navigate through its wide range of subjects. Books are thoughtfully arranged by both language and topic, making it simple for readers to locate specific works or browse through related areas of interest. The collection includes a rich mix of fiction and non fiction, offering something for every type of reader. From classic literature and modern novels to philosophy, science, spirituality, and social studies, the diversity of content reflects the intellectual openness that Auroville encourages.

One of the most significant features of the library is its nearly complete collection of the works of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother. These writings hold deep importance for the Auroville community, as they form the philosophical and spiritual foundation upon which the township is built. Having such an extensive compilation in one place provides readers with the opportunity to engage deeply with these teachings, whether they are long time followers or newcomers seeking to understand the vision behind Auroville.

The library also places special emphasis on younger readers by maintaining a dedicated children’s section. This separate space is designed to be inviting and engaging, encouraging children to develop a love for reading from an early age. The collection includes storybooks, educational materials, and creative literature that stimulate imagination and learning. By providing this dedicated area, the library ensures that children have their own comfortable environment where they can explore books suited to their age and interests.
