VMRDA INS Kursura Submarine Museum, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh

INS Kursura (S20) was a proud member of the Indian Navy’s Kalvari class diesel electric submarines and held the distinction of being the country’s fourth submarine. Commissioned on December 18, 1969, Kursura served faithfully beneath the waves for over three decades before being retired on February 27, 2001, marking the end of an impressive 31 years of naval history.

The VMRDA INS Kursura Submarine Museum, located on the scenic RK Beach Road in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, is a unique tribute to India's naval history. Housed in the decommissioned Soviet built INS Kursura (S20), the museum offers visitors an immersive experience into the life aboard a submarine. INS Kursura served the Indian Navy from 1969 to 2001, participating in significant naval operations, including the 1971 Indo Pakistani War. After its decommissioning, the submarine was transformed into a museum in 2002 with support from the Eastern Naval Command and the National Ship Design and Research Centre.
