Education has the power to transform lives, especially when it reaches those who face challenges in accessing learning opportunities. Throughout history, compassionate leaders and visionaries have worked to ensure that education becomes available to every individual, regardless of physical limitations. One such remarkable story is the origin of KKBS, an institution created with the purpose of providing education and empowerment to visually impaired students.

About Business

The foundation of KKBS is deeply connected with the inspiring vision of Maharaja Shri Krushnkumarsinhji of Bhavnagar, whose commitment to social welfare led to the establishment of a school dedicated to the education of blind students. What began as a simple conversation between a compassionate ruler and a determined young student eventually grew into a historic institution that has been serving visually impaired learners for decades.

The story of KKBS reflects the values of empathy, leadership, and the belief that every individual deserves access to education and dignity.

A Moment That Sparked a Vision

The roots of KKBS can be traced back to the year 1928, when Maharaja Shri Krushnkumarsinhji visited the Victoria Memorial School for the Blind in Mumbai. During his visit, he interacted with students studying at the institution and took a keen interest in their experiences.

Among the students he met was a young visually impaired boy named Natu Dolat Oza, who belonged to Umrala village in the Bhavnagar State. The Maharaja was curious to know why a student from Bhavnagar had traveled all the way to Mumbai for education.

With genuine concern, the Maharaja asked the young student, “Why are you studying here in Mumbai?”

Natu respectfully replied that there was no school for blind students in Bhavnagar or in any nearby region. Because of this lack of educational facilities, he had no choice but to travel far from home to pursue his studies.

This simple yet powerful answer deeply touched the Maharaja.

Compassion That Led to Action

The honest response from Natu Dolat Oza left a lasting impression on Maharaja Shri Krushnkumarsinhji. It made him realize the challenges faced by visually impaired children in his state who lacked access to proper education.

Instead of simply acknowledging the problem, the Maharaja decided to take immediate action. He believed that every child deserved the opportunity to learn and grow, regardless of physical limitations.

During the same visit, the Maharaja recognized Natu’s achievements. The young student had secured first position in nylon chair knitting work, a skill that required patience and precision. Impressed by his dedication and talent, the Maharaja honored him with an award.

However, the recognition was only the beginning. Inspired by Natu’s determination, the Maharaja resolved to create a solution that would benefit many other children like him.

At that very moment, he decided to establish a school for the blind in Bhavnagar.
