Ganjam College came into existence on 7th August 1969, born out of the collective aspiration of the people of Ganjam town who believed that quality higher education was essential for regional development and social progress. The establishment of the college was not merely an administrative decision; it was a movement driven by community participation, dedication, and a shared vision for the future of young learners.
A pivotal role in the founding of the institution was played by Sri R. P. Padhy, the then Vice Chancellor of Berhampur University, Odisha. His academic foresight and commitment to expanding access to higher education laid the groundwork for the institution’s long term success. Under his guidance and encouragement, the college began its journey with confidence and clarity of purpose.
The first Principal of Ganjam College, Sri Prahallad Panda, provided strong academic leadership during the formative years. The governing body was further strengthened by respected personalities such as Mahanta Sri Raghunath Ramanuja Das, who served as President, and Sri Narayan Panda, Ex MLA, who acted as Secretary. Originally, Ganjam College began as an institution offering Intermediate-level education in Humanities. At that time, the primary objective was to provide affordable and accessible education to students from Ganjam town and nearby rural areas who had limited opportunities for higher studies.

With continuous efforts from the management, faculty, and local community, Ganjam College transformed into a full fledged degree college, offering undergraduate programs across multiple disciplines.
